Introduction to Platinum Printing

Kipton Kumler's Platinum Prints of Palm Fronds were the first I had ever seen. I was taken by the beauty, tactile quality and long tonal scale of that medium. I made a vow that I would eventually learn how to make platinum prints. I began platinum printing in the early 1990s and gave up the practice in 2008.

The three links below this paragraph illustrate the process I used to create digital negatives and platinum prints during that period. No doubt there are better technical sources today than the information written more than fifteen years ago. While I no longer make platinum prints I am keeping these pages because they illustrate what it looks like to hand coat a platinum print.
